Organisational structure

The league association is an amalgamation of the top two divisions’ licensed clubs and/or their economic sponsors that were extraordinary members of the DHB by 30.06.2003 in accordance to § 54 paragraph 1 of the DHB constitution.

The league association exclusively receives the right to represent the clubs in the top two divisions, the domestic cup competitions and any continental competition in which a German club should qualify for. Consequently, it is also in charge of organising and marketing the DHB Cup and the Super Cup.

The league association plays a key role in developing handball in Germany and by paying for the use of the licensed teams commercially, it contributes financially to the DHB. The league association also helps the development of the DHB-run Germany national side and associated teams by releasing its members’ players when called up. When working towards its goals, the league association works in accordance to this constitution.
